Status of Mean Sea Level Rise around the USA (2020)

چکیده

The potential threats to the USA from current and projected sea level rise are significant, with profound environmental, social economic consequences. This study continues refinement improvement in analysis techniques for research beyond Fourth US National Climate Assessment (NCA4) report by incorporating further advancements time series of long tide gauge records integrated an improved vertical land motion (VLM) assessment. has also been synthesised updated regional assessment satellite altimetry trends margins fringing USA. Coastal more vulnerable posed rising levels those which subsidence is prevalent, higher evident ‘geocentric’ velocities mean being observed. evidence this highlights key spatial features emerging 2020, highlight northern foreshore Gulf Coast along east coast south Chesapeake Bay region exposed range factors exacerbating than other coastlines at present. findings complement extend NCA4 2020.

Contemporary sea level rise.

Measuring sea level change and understanding its causes has considerably improved in the recent years, essentially because new in situ and remote sensing observations have become available. Here we report on most recent results on contemporary sea level rise. We first present sea level observations from tide gauges over the twentieth century and from satellite altimetry since the early 1990s. W...

Sea-level rise by 2100.

IN HIS NEWS AND ANALYSIS PIECE REPORTING ON THE NEWLY RELEASED FIFTH ASSESSMENT report (AR5) by Working Group I (WGI) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) (“A Stronger IPCC Report,” 4 October, p. 23), R. A. Kerr highlights three fundamental conclusions about climate change that were assessed with equal or greater confi dence than in previous IPCC reports. He also points to th...

Sea-level Rise Forecast Model

The paper analyzes the melting pace of ice cap in the North Pole and its influence on the rising sea level. The paper constructs the linear and non-linear models between rising sea level and the year by quoting data from Florida Tide Gage Station. The paper also contrasts the two models and selects the non-linear model. By adopting the model, the paper predicts the height of rising sea level ev...

Statistical Analysis of the Acceleration of Baltic Mean Sea-Level Rise, 1900–2012

We analyse annual mean sea-level records from tide-gauges located in the Baltic and parts of the North Sea with the aim of detecting an acceleration of sea-level rise over the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The acceleration is estimated as a (1) fit to a polynomial of order two in time, (2) a long-term linear increase in the rates computed over gliding overlapping decadal time segments, ...

Sea level rise in the Arctic Ocean

About 60 tide-gauge stations in the Kara, Laptev, East-Siberian and Chukchi Seas have recorded the sea level change from the 1950s through 1990s. Over this 40-year period, most of these stations show a significant sea level rise (SLR). In light of global change, this SLR could be a manifestation of warming in the Arctic coupled with a decrease of sea ice extent, warming of Atlantic waters, chan...
